Inner Mastery, Outer Impact: Pursuing Leadership Success from the Inside Out

JUNE 23, 2023

About the Organizer: The Oxford Character Project‘s Conference on Character, Culture, and Leadership in Business brought together 100 business leaders, academics, researchers, and students to discuss the leadership needed to embed values and purpose in business and the central importance of character.

Leadership and character are hard to teach, and hard to master. But what if we’ve been searching for the answer in all the wrong places? What if character-driven leadership is less about “fixing” people by having them develop new neural pathways, and more about “sparking” them by nudging them to use underutilized neural pathways that already exist within their brain?

Based on his research, teaching and experiments at Columbia Business School and the Mentora Institute, Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa, shared some very positive new findings on how we can help people accelerate their path to exemplary leadership and achieve breakthroughs in performance by approaching exemplary leadership not as a trait to be acquired but as a state to be activated, by shifting the focus from learning on the sidelines to leading in the flow of work.
