The Friendly Face of Feedback: Grow Through Honest Insights

How to excel in whatever you do 🥇

It’s hard to overstate the importance of feedback in growth and development. Whether we are trying to build a skill, launch a new product, or are pursuing a change goal…feedback helps us course-correct, learn, and grow.

In this newsletter, I want to invite you to make feedback a valued growth partner — by learning to solicit thoughtful feedback from others.

Here’s how to do it. Identify two things — one, an aspect of who you are where you would like to grow, and two, someone you trust and feel comfortable soliciting feedback from in this area. Schedule some time to talk to this person, and make sure to give them the agenda in advance so that they have time to prepare.

In your conversation, make sure to listen with an open mind, and ask clarifying questions if required. Remember, you have asked for this feedback, so it is important that you are centered and ready to receive it. Then ask yourself, “What was valuable, in what I learned from their feedback? Was it about me at my Core, or about how my actions are perceived by others? What part of the feedback should I keep, and what part should I gracefully let go?”

The people who excel at their craft continue to grow in their skill level indefinitely. They find ways to solicit feedback every time they put their skills into action, striving to always extract useful information about how to improve. Asking for timely feedback enables them to nip problems in the bud instead of letting them fester and stay unresolved indefinitely, enabling this continuous growth and improvement.

Warmly,
Hitendra
